Video Introduction with Max Thorn

Overview

Welcome to the Queens College Libraries! In this guide, you'll find information about how to use the library resources, including how to conduct effective searches, how to use the library website and databases, how to use key terms and Boolean operators, and how to identify peer-reviewed sources.

Use the chat box in the sidebar to the right to connect with a Queens College librarian if you have any questions or want more information while you review these materials. During your regularly scheduled library instruction session, the librarian assigned to guide your class will be available to chat; otherwise, another Queens College librarian will be available to answer your questions using this chat function Monday through Thursday, 11am-8pm, and weekends noon-4pm. For help at other times, use the "Ask Us a Question" box on the library homepage to get research help from a librarian at another institution 24/7.

Identifies elements of the library homepage, including the main search bar, which allows users to search across multiple library resources, and the advanced search option, which allows users to refine search terms; the Research drop-down menu, which provides access to databases, articles, and newspapers; an the About dropdown, which provides access to library maps and librarian contact information.

  • Select the Research tab in the top menu to find scholarly articles in library databases, to consult research guides, or to get help from a reference services librarian
  • Select the About tab in the top menu to find maps of the libraries or get contact information for library faculty & staff
  • Search across multiple library resources by entering search terms or a title in the OneSearch search bar and selecting Search
  • Select Advanced Search to refine your search

Remote Access

All Queens College students, staff, and faculty can access to the libraries’ electronic resources off-campus. To use databases and electronic resources while off-campus you must verify affiliation with Queens College when prompted.

Please note that the library has updated its catalog and as such barcodes are no longer supported. However, if you are unable to login as suggested below, please complete the form:https://qc-cuny.libwizard.com/f/ElectronicResources_Access_Form and include your barcode number. We will work to resolve the issue.

In order to access library databases, resources and your account, you may login with your CUNY Login Credentials. Your CUNY Login credentials follow the  pattern: Firstname.LastnameNN@login.cuny.edu, where “NN” is the last 2+ digits of your CUNY EMPLID. If you are a guest user, your CUNY Login account username will be the one you set in the CUNY Portal.
