Company Financial Statements

A company's financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, can be used to analyze a company's financial status or financial health. 

Company financial statements are available in Mergent Online database:

Mergent Online database provides:

  • quarterly and annual financial statements for U.S. and international companies
  • the Annual Report to the Shareholders for U.S. companies nearly 20 years

Audit Analytics

Audit Analytics database provides:

  • Audit information on more than 10,000 accounting firms
  • Audit and Compliance data sets covering public companies registered with the SEC.
  • Auditor, fees, location, industry and more data for reports creation.

SEC Filings

  • SEC Filings a number of required documents that publicly-traded companies file with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which are filed electronically through the SEC's EDGAR system.
  • SEC Filings are searchable at the SEC website and some library databases, such as Mergent Online and Nexis Uni (Former Title: Lexis Nexis Academic).

Searching SEC filings may be in the following contexts:

  • Searching a particular filing for a particular company for a certain date is simple to do in most cases. 
  • Looking for only filings that contain a certain topic or keyword like financial or legal term. 

To find filings on a particular topic or keyword from searching across large sets of filings:

  • In Mergent Online, click on the Government Filings tab >> use Text Search; limit the search by companies, dates, and filing types as needed.
  • In Nexis Uni (Former Title: Lexis Nexis Academic), click on the "Companies" tab on the top >> click on  All SEC Filings – Full-Text and Abstracts option under Content Type >> select Form Type  >> type in topical key terms >>  Use Document Segments/Fields to specific targeted parts of the filings.

Search for electronic filings from 1994 to the Securities and Exchange Commission that are available to the public. This is an open-access database.

  • Bloomberg Terminal (Bloomberg Professional)

With Bloomberg terminals, finance and business professionals can access real-time financial data on publicly traded and private companies. Queens College School of Business supports access to Bloomberg Terminals.

  • Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS):

WRDS is a data portal providing access to datasets from various providers covering finance,   accounting,  economics, management, marketing, banking, insurance, and more. Queens College School of  Business supports access to WRDS.
