The research process isn't just about knowing where to search. You also need to understand what you are looking for and how you will use it once you find it.

Understanding your assignment, choosing a good topic, and deciding whether a source is worth your time are essential research skills. This section will give you some tips to help you develop them further.

When evaluating the sources you find consider the following:

1. Determine the quality of the information by asking when it was published
2. Is it relevant to your research topic
3. Who is the author and are they an authority on the subject
4. Is it factual and accurate information
5. What purpose does this source serve
