Library & Information Studies Research

Introduction

Start with:

  • Select specific topic within the LIS field.
  • Search the topic in an encyclopedia, handbook or dictionary to gain basic understanding of the subject. A sample of suggested titles available in the Library are listed under Reference Sources in this guide.

Continue with:

  1.  OneSearch - a tool for searching multiple library resources from one interface. It offers access to print and electronic resources available to you at Queens College Library and other CUNY libraries. A search in OneSearch will retrieve books, journals, articles and media sources but limiting to specific resource(s) will generate better results.
  2. To check on details of your library account, renew borrowed items, etc., use either  "Sign in"  or  "Menu"  tab in OneSearch, or My Account via Quick Links
  3. For books, use OneSearch  and other online library catalogs listed under Books in this guide.
  4. For research published in specialized sources, follow suggestions listed under Databases in this guide.
  5. To find a specific periodical i.e., journal, magazine or newspaper, follow suggestions listed under Periodicals in this guide.
  6. Consult Professional Organizations and Associations  or Web Resources sites for any additional information on your subject

Accessing QC library resources from off campus

To access library databases, resources and your account,  login with your CUNY Login Credentials.

  • Your CUNY Login credentials follow the  pattern:  Firstname.LastnameNN@login.cuny.edu, where “NN” is the last 2+ digits of your CUNY EMPLID.
  • All current CUNY students, faculty and staff should have EMPL IDs. If you have not activated your CUNY Credentials, you  can do that here: https://managelogin.cuny.edu/OIMSelfService/registration?execution=e1s1

If you are a guest user, your CUNY Login account username will be the one you set in the CUNY Portal.
